Things have finally come full circle. Ghost in the Shell, the hit animated movie which deals with such sci-fi themes such as virtual lives, is now getting its own virtual reality film which is currently being shown off at Production I.G’s specially designed spherical theatre. Basically a 3D effect is delivered through red-and-green glasses.
Don’t be disappointed by that last sentence. The full feature movie will be released sometime this winter and will play in 360-degrees on the Oculus Share as well as Android and iOS platforms. The film will cost roughly four dollars, although there’s no word yet on exactly how long the film will be. Considering the limitations of this technology at this stage in time we can’t imagine that it’ll be as long as a theatrical film would be. Still, no franchise deserves to be re-made in virtual reality as much as Ghost in the Shell does. Except, y’’know, maybe The Matrix or something.
