Much like the mythical phoenix, Sony is in the process of rising from its own ashes. The company has recently slashed bloated divisions, outsourced other unprofitable divisions, and has even considered crowdfunding to save itself from a most unfortunate fate. One of those crowdfunding ventures is a new type of universal remote called the HUIS (pronounced “haus”) remote.
While we’ve seen universal remotes for your devices in the past, HUIS differentiates itself from its competitors by being starkly minimalistic. In terms of design, the device’s white plastic and e-Ink display work together in a way that’s reminiscent of the original iPod and it certainly looks nice when out on the coffee table.
In terms of functionality, HUIS is capable of controlling your Blu-Ray player, connected lights, fans, air conditioning, and more. The e-Ink display is also very responsive and the device is almost surely using the same e-Ink tech as Amazon is in their newest Kindle. You can get your own HUIS by supporting Sony’s crowdfunding project at the $ 200 level.
